About this tool

Convert any color PDF to grayscale by rendering each page as a high-quality monochrome image. This guarantees that all color — including colored text, images, and vector graphics — is fully removed. The result is ideal for black-and-white printing. Note: because pages are rasterized, text will not be selectable in the output.

Key features

  • Complete color removal

Every element — images, text, and vector graphics — is converted to grayscale.

  • Print optimized

Ideal for black-and-white printers — reduces ink usage and printing costs.

  • Works on all PDFs

Handles scanned documents, image-heavy PDFs, and typeset documents equally well.

  • Secure & private

Files are processed securely and deleted immediately after download.

Frequently asked questions

Will text still be selectable after conversion?
No. Each page is rendered as an image, so the output is a raster PDF — text, bookmarks, and hyperlinks will not be present in the result.
Will this work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. Scanned PDFs are already raster images, so grayscale conversion works perfectly on them.
Why does the output look correct but text is not selectable?
The tool renders each page at 150 DPI to an image before converting to grayscale. This is the most reliable way to ensure all color is removed, but it produces a raster-only PDF.
Will the file size change?
The file size may increase slightly compared to the original because each page becomes a lossless grayscale image. For scanned PDFs it is often similar or smaller.
